Join Tabula Rasa Dance Theater, led by Artistic Director Felipe Escalante, for Un-Choreographed, June 5 & 6, 2026 at El Museo del Barrio. Featuring four commissioned world premieres, Un-Choreographed is a bold gathering of choreographic voices examining what it means to inhabit Latine identity in 2026. Through the lens of heritage, culture, and corporeality, the evening will explore the lived experiences of today’s Latine diaspora.


Un-Choreographed is supported, in part, by the Cultural Development Fund and New York State Council on the Arts (NYSCA).

Théa Bautista

Théa Bautista is a Franco-Mexican-American dancer and choreographer and the founder of Althea Dance Company. She studied music and dance for 10 years at the Maurice Ravel Conservatory in Paris, In 2014, she moved to New York to continue her training and graduated from the Peridance Capezio Center in June 2016.

She founded Althea Dance Company in New York in 2018, and since then the company has performed on stages such as The Place (London), La MaMa Theater (New York), and the Palais de Tokyo (Paris), as well as within festivals and theaters across Europe, the United States, and Mexico.

Her artistic work draws from her international background and multicultural identity. Théa explores the complexity of human relationships—both on a personal and societal scale.
In 2023, she founded the FUSA Dance Festival (France–USA Dance Festival), a biennial event between Paris and New York that fosters dialogue between choreographic communities in both countries.

Felipe Escalante

Felipe Escalante at age six began performing the folk dances of his native Querétaro, México. A protégé of Guillermina Bravo, he graduated from México’s National Center of Contemporary Dance and choreographed his first work at sixteen. He has since created more than 20 original pieces.

A recipient of multiple Ford Foundation grants, Escalante has developed  works addressing the refugee crisis (Ex umbra in solem), mass incarceration (Inside Our Skins), and the psychological toll of the pandemic (Liquidus). In 2021 he founded the Liquidus Workshop to provide free classes and performance opportunities to dancers impacted by COVID-19.

His 2022 production Oedipus Rex reimagined Sophocles through technology, lasers, and A.I., earning accolades for its inventiveness and courage. In 2023 he introduced Border of Lights, a critically acclaimed exploration of immigration and xenophobia. Supported by the CUNY Dance Initiative, he also premiered Animus Necandi and Ship of Fools.

In 2025, with support from NYSCA, NYC’s Cultural Development Fund, and LMCC, Escalante restaged Border of Lights and premiered Escaramuza, a tribute to the daring synchronized horsewomen of México.

Diego Gómez

​Diego Gómez is a NYC-based contemporary, modern dancer and musical theater actor born and raised in Mexico City. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in contemporary dance from Centro Nacional de Danza Contemporánea.  He has danced and collaborated with a multitude of choreographers across several continents, including: Ema Pulido, Federico Castro, Luis Arreguin, Jaime Blanc, Brisa Escobedo, Luis Rubio, Virginie Mécène, Christine Dakin, and Jacqulyn Buglisi.

Miguel Miranda

Miguel Miranda is a Peruvian multidisciplinary dancer and choreographer based in New York City. He has performed as a freelance artist on projects including Punchdrunk’s Sleep No More NYC, Emursive’s Life and Trust, and Company SBB.

His choreographic work has been presented at 92nd Street Y, New York City Center, the Ailey Citigroup Theater, the Martha Graham Studio Theater, the Mark O’Donnell Theater at MICA, and the American College Dance Association (ACDA), among others. He earned his BFA in Dance Performance and Choreography from Montclair State University in 2023.In 2025, Miguel received commissions from McKoy Dance Project and the José Limón Dance Company’s Limón 2.
